You May Soon Have a Social Credit Score - By Daymond Duck - https://www.raptureready.com/2023/05/06/you-may-soon-have-a-credit-score-by-daymond-duck/

Concerning tracking of all buying and selling: on Apr. 26, 2023, it was reported that Reggie Littlejohn, founder and president of Women’s Rights Without Frontiers, said the World Health Organization (WHO) is promoting a vaccine passport that has the same digital platform as China’s social credit system.

It can identify people by their face scan; identify their location; record their residence, place of work, spending history, internet searches, criminal records, and much more (just like they do in Communist China).

Littlejohn said the WHO used Covid-19 to get people to accept vaccine passports to move about, and in the future, they will push the idea that if you want to be free, you will get vaccinated and accept a vaccine passport.

Simply put, vaccine passports will enable authorities to track all one does.

Citizens that have them will be accepted as good citizens, but citizens that don’t have them will be labeled as bad citizens and denied many of their rights.

I have little doubt that our government will deny that they will do this (it is called deceit), but the Bible teaches that people will call evil good and good evil at the end of the age.

Here are some recent events that seem to indicate that the end of the age is near.

One, concerning population control and world government: it is a well-known fact that:

  • Some World Economic Forum (WEF) leaders want to reduce the population of the earth.
  • Some Climate Change advocates want to reduce the consumption of meat and restrict how many cattle that farmers and ranchers can raise.
  • Bill Gates and others are beginning to produce synthetic meat products.

On Apr. 17, 2023, New York City Mayor Adams announced his desire to reduce the city’s food-related greenhouse gas emissions by one-third in seven years.

Some of the things he is considering are restrictions on food served in city buildings, hospitals, schools, homeless shelters, etc.

(My opinion: I don’t think it is a coincidence that the UN, WEF, Pres. Biden, and others want to establish a world government by 2030 or sooner, and Mayor Adams wants to control New Yorker’s food consumption by 2030. If he gets control of their food consumption, he will be able to control them.)

Two, concerning God’s promise to bless those that bless Israel and to curse those that curse Israel: on Apr. 21, 2023, Israeli Prime Min. Netanyahu was speaking about the improving ties between Saudi Arabia and Israel’s enemy Iran when he said (my words for the sake of brevity):

  • Those who partner with Israel boost their societies. Israel now has billions of dollars in investment and trade with the Gulf states (it was nothing a few years ago, and we haven’t even scratched the surface).
  • Those who partner with Iran partner with misery and have turned into nearly failed states. Look at Lebanon, Yemen, Syria, and Iraq.

This difference is real, and it speaks to the truth of God’s Word.

(Concerning Saudi Arabia’s improving relationship with Israel’s enemy Iran: on Apr. 27, 2023, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said, “I think that this administration, the Biden administration, has worked overtime to alienate the Saudis.”)

Three, God said His Spirit will draw the Jews back to Israel at the end of the age. On Apr. 25, 2023, it was reported that Israel’s population is now 9,727,000 people, and 73.5% are Jews.

Four, concerning world government: on Apr. 26, 2023, it was reported that the United Nations (UN) and the World Economic Forum (WEF) are disappointed with the speed of world government development.

They want to speed up progress on the Transforming our World: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals.

The WEF is planning to meet later this year to discuss ways to accelerate the globalist agenda.

According to the article, the globalist Build Back Better agenda will have many of the characteristics of communism.

Citizens will be required to work for the “common good” instead of their “personal good” (wealth distribution for all of society instead of personal gain for individuals based on hard work).

(My opinion: I find it interesting that the Bible says a Restrainer, probably Church and Holy Spirit, are holding back the rise of the Antichrist, and the UN and WEF are disappointed with the speed of world government development.)

(Note: Considering that the WHO is promoting a vaccine passport that has the same digital platform as China’s social credit system, the thought of a world government with many of the characteristics of communism is bad news. Praise God for the Rapture.)

(More: Since writing the above about the UN and WEF wanting to speed up the globalist agenda, it has been reported that the meeting to do that will be held in New York on Sept. 18-19, 2023. This second report said the UN website says the meeting will “mark the beginning of a new phase of accelerated progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals.”)

Five, concerning the firing of Tucker Carlson by Fox News: speculation abounds, and I don’t know the facts, but on Apr. 27, 2023, American Thinker posted an article by J. Robert Smith that caught my attention:

According to Smith, Carlson recently said (in my words for the sake of brevity):

  • The conflict between traditional America and the Left is because the Left has increasingly embraced evil.
  • Most Americans don’t want to regard other Americans as evil, but the evidence is abundant and growing.
  • American civilization hangs in the balance.
  • If you have people who are saying, ‘I have an idea, let’s castrate the next generation, let’s sexually mutilate children,’ I’m sorry, that’s not a political debate. That has nothing to do with politics.
  • Proclaiming killing babies in the womb as a “positive good” is morally grotesque.
  • Sexually indoctrinating children — from kindergarten forward — is a lurid act of mental and emotional molestation.

Smith opined:

  • The Left is a cult instigating a movement to destroy traditional mores and culture and then impose a radically new perverse morality and order on Americans.
  • There’s a cold war underway that’s unlimited in scope, initiated by a pernicious, destructive leftist cult, a war whereby society is to be consumed, spit out, and remade.

Here is a link to the article:

https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2023/04/tucker_carlson_is_right_its_about_evil_.html

(Note: Abortion, same-sex marriage, an anti-Christian world religion, a communist world government, etc., are definitely unbiblical and evil.)

(More: In Mar. 2023, TN Gov. Bill Lee signed a bill that bans transgender medical surgeries that permanently alter the life of children starting on July 1, 2023. On Apr. 20, 2023, Biden’s Dept. of Justice joined several plaintiffs in a lawsuit to have the TN law declared unconstitutional.)

Six, concerning pestilences and deceit: in mid-Apr. 2023, rebels trying to topple the Sudanese government seized control of the nation’s National Public Health Library and bio-lab that has been experimenting with pathogens and hazardous materials.

There was an immediate outcry from the World Health Organization (WHO) and others who were afraid deadly diseases would be released and start another global pandemic.

On Apr. 30, 2030, it was reported that the U.S. National Institute of Health (NIH) under Dr. Anthony Fauci and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation provided $20 million to the bio-lab to study some of the deadly pathogens.

Seven, concerning deceit: on May 1, 2023, it was reported that some people want to have a limb removed, one of their eyes put out, or whatever so they can identify as disabled and draw a disability check.

If a person can falsely identify as any gender they want and force the public to recognize it, why can’t a person falsely identify as disabled and force the public to recognize it.

Eight, concerning deceit: around midnight Apr. 28, an illegal alien, who has been deported 5 times, shot and killed 5 people in Texas.

Instead of blaming our government’s open border policies, most media pundits blamed the illegal alien’s gun.

Nine, concerning the coming economic collapse: First Republic Bank (based in San Francisco) failed on May 1, 2023.

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) seized its assets and sold them to JP Morgan.

Three of the four largest bank failures in U.S. History have now occurred under the Biden administration (and he wants to cause more problems for banks and citizens by increasing our national debt even more than it is now).

(More: On May 2, 2023, it was reported that the assets of the three banks that have collapsed this year (Silicon Valley Bank, Signature Bank, and First Republic Bank) were more than the 25 banks that collapsed in 2008. This is huge, and it is why the government is urging bank investors and customers to remain calm.)

(My opinion: I don’t know the day or the hour of the Rapture, but that event could accelerate everything: world government, global economic collapse, etc. We cannot know when it will happen, but we know the problems and evil will greatly increase after the Church is removed from this earth.)

Ten, the coming world religion will reject Jehovah, Jesus, the Bible, Christianity, and Judaism.

During a recent speech in Switzerland, Yuval Noah Harari, one of Klaus Schwab’s top assistants at the World Economic Forum (WEF), said the world is on the verge of a new religion created by Artificial Intelligence (AI).

As I understand it, computers that have been programmed by non-Christians will write religious beliefs to replace the Scriptures.

According to Harari, “religions throughout history claimed that their holy books were written by unknown human intelligence. This was never true before. This could become true very, very quickly, with far-reaching consequences.”

Denying that the Bible was written by people under the inspiration of God is about as anti-Bible, anti-Jewish, and anti-Christian as one can get.

Eleven, concerning the Mark of the Beast in the forehead or right hand of people: on May 3, 2023, Blackrock Neurotech in Salt Lake City reported that it has implanted microchips in the brain of dozens of people.

According to the article, more than 50,000 people (this is probably a worldwide number) have already been chipped between their thumb and index finger, and a 2021 survey in the EU found that 51% would consider having a microchip implanted in their body.

It is important to understand that this is not the Mark of the Beast that the False Prophet and the Antichrist will push at the middle of the Tribulation Period, but the technology to do that will soon be ready.

Twelve, concerning open borders, the decline of America, and world government: on May 3, 2023, it was suggested that Pres. Biden is sending 1,500 U.S. troops to America’s border with Mexico, not to close the border, not to stop the flow of illegal drugs, not to stop the human trafficking, but to help process the surge of illegal immigrants that is expected to come when Title 42 ends.

It appears that Biden is using the military because he wants to improve his image before the next election.

Finally, are you Rapture Ready?

If you want to be rapture ready and go to heaven, you must be born again (John 3:3). God loves you, and if you have not done so, sincerely admit that you are a sinner; believe that Jesus is the virgin-born, sinless Son of God who died for the sins of the world, was buried, and raised from the dead; ask Him to forgive your sins, cleanse you, come into your heart and be your Saviour; then tell someone that you have done this.

To Mock the Promise Of His Coming Is To Mock The Lord Himself – By Hal Lindsey - https://harbingersdaily.com/to-mock-the-promise-of-his-coming-is-to-mock-the-lord-himself/

Signs of the end of the age continue to increase in number and intensity. The Bible presents many such signs, including this surprising one in 2 Peter 3:3-4. “Know this first of all, that in the last days mockers will come with their mocking, following after their own lusts, and saying, ‘Where is the promise of His coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all continues just as it was from the beginning of creation.’”

It’s surprising because these people should know better. They are the ones who have heard about the coming of the Lord for years. They know something about the Bible. Many of them are, or at least represent themselves as, believers. They often belong to, or even lead, churches. Yet they choose to mock. And what is the object of their mockery? The Lord Himself.

“Where is the promise of His coming?” they ask. We find “the promise of His coming” in the Lord’s own words. The fulfillment of His promise depends on His truthfulness and His faithfulness. That’s why to mock His promise is to mock the Lord Himself. Jesus said it plainly. He said it often and in many different ways. In John 14:3, He put it like this. “I will come again.”

What’s plainer than that? I…WILL…COME…AGAIN!

Can you imagine looking into His face and mocking that which He promised? Yet one prominent Christian leader explained why he stopped preaching on Bible prophecy. He said young people “don’t want to hear that.”

Are we now supposed to ignore major portions of the Bible because of what one demographic or another “wants” to hear? Should the whims of “itching ears” rule our pulpits? Jesus chided the religious leaders of His day for not understanding the signs of the time (Matthew16:14). What does Jesus now think of leaders who refuse to preach major portions of His message because young people “don’t want to hear that”?

Hebrews 9:28 says that Jesus will appear a second time “to those who eagerly await Him.” “Eagerly await” is the English translation of the Greek word apekdechomai. It means to look-for with joyous expectation. This passage uses the phrase “those who eagerly await Him” like a synonym for “the followers of Christ.” It’s not saying that we earn salvation by having the correct attitude about the Second Coming. But it does point to the fact that eagerly awaiting His return is the normal, healthy posture of those who follow Jesus.

Yet individual churches and whole denominations now eschew any mention of the Lord’s return. Many churches that once joyously taught the Second Coming, now treat it like a bad smell. Ironically, they have turned away from the teaching of Christ’s return at a time when signs of that return are flooding the world. Contemporary events serve as vivid evidence of the Bible’s reliability and accuracy. Yet many of those who say they preach the Bible refuse to let people know what’s really going on.

Marketing experts should not choose our sermon topics. We must preach what Acts 20:27 refers to as “the whole counsel of God,” and we must do so consistently.

The course of world events is again proving that the message God gave in the Bible is completely reliable. If we trust God, we will trust His word. When we trust His word, we are trusting Him.

Heavenly Hatred? – Terry James - https://terryjamesprophecyline.com/2023/05/07/heavenly-hatred/

Those who see God as a grandfatherly teddy bear who sits in Heaven and smiles tolerantly down upon imperfect human beings often argue that God is love and would never send people to an eternity of torment. Most in this category would agree with Pope Francis that even atheists will eventually go to Heaven.

When considering today’s world, while wickedness is on the rise and is the order of the hour, the fallen mind, it can be reasoned, might be justified in reaching such a conclusion. Wickedness pervades societies and cultures around the planet. Those who perpetrate heinous activity seem to get away with their iniquitous behavior. God in Heaven seems to the “God is love only” crowd to be forgiving of all evil—even if repentance isn’t forthcoming.

“A loving God couldn’t send even the Adolf Hitlers and Mao Zedongs to a place of punishment such as the Bible describes” is the mantra. Although such beastly humans are subject to earthly retribution, the retribution is only temporary. The person’s spirit is ultimately absolved of all sins. This is the religiosity behind many in the matter of good vs evil.

“God is only love; that such a deity could harbor no hate” is at the heart of this earth-centered theology.

Of course, those who hang onto this view want no heavenly governance for the most part. They want to be free to do what is right in their own eyes. They don’t want to answer to a deity for their own sins. They will make it to Heaven because a loving God could never send them, or anyone, to the Hell described in the Bible.

And they must at the same time view the Bible as a book that is flawed at the very least—not the Word of God (at least, not of their version of God).

Because they declare that God can’t hate—that He is only love—they must deny that the words of the Bible aren’t the Truth—the very words of the Living God.

You might disagree with my analysis of the type of things God hates, but I thought these are matters we’re all familiar with. Here is why they must deny the Bible to be God’s Word. This is how the writer of Proverbs puts it:

These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him.

A proud look,

A lying tongue,

Hands that shed innocent blood,

An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations,

Feet that be swift in running to mischief,

A false witness that speaketh lies,

And he that soweth discord among brethren. (Proverbs 6:16–19)

If there is a God who punishes sin with eternal fire in Hell, there is a world full of people at this moment who will not make Heaven without repentance. Let’s look at some of the sins we should be thoroughly familiar with, since we’re inundated with such wickedness at an exponentially increasing rate.

“A proud look”

We remember the actress who held up a performance award she had just won and told Jesus to do something in the most vulgar of terms. Hollywood types and politicians of the anti-God, ideological left often display such prideful blasphemy.

“A lying tongue”

A president—despite absolute, even scientific, DNA evidence—lied that he had never had sex with a young woman, and had only his hand slapped for the lie to a forum before which lying supposedly brings severe punishment.

Additionally, another president continues to have ongoing lies perpetrated against him from opposition politicos, entertainers, and even mainstream news organizations. The Russian collusion hoax continues to haunt our eyes and ears, with other lies just as egregious making their way to the forefront of the crooked election processes of our day.

“Hands that shed innocent blood”

Can there be any among us who are truly innocent other than babies in the wombs of their mothers? Yet their blood continues to be shed by the millions every year in America and around the world. Laws are made just to secure the right to commit this most wicked practice and those who practice abortion as “the right to choose.”

“An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations”

In considering this thing that God hates, we think on the desires of those who want to do wickedness to the youngest of children through exposing them to evil, transvestite, and other sexual perversions. One political party is now controlled by those who want to teach these perversions in classrooms and even to change the genders medically of children while declaring parents who oppose such activity as anarchists. The FBI has joined in the pursuit of such parents who seek to protect their children.

“Feet that be swift in running to mischief”

Black Lives Matter (BLM) comes immediately to mind. Its followers have done billions of dollars in damage to private and public properties—have even burned churches, such as setting on fire the church known as the church of the presidents in Washington, DC.

These and other rioter-organizations, like Antifa, have burned entire portions of inner cities and blocked off certain areas as “off limits” to police.

These, funded by the evilist of globalist minions, run swiftly to any mischief that arises.

“A false witness that speaketh lies”

We recall a Supreme Court nominee who, in the recent past, was subjected to a woman who, it was proven, falsely accused the nominee of sexually assaulting her and other young women many years previous.

Justice Clarence Thomas also went through such false accusations at his hearings, with the current president of the United States, when he was a US senator, leading the false accusations in what has become known as a high-tech lynching.

“And he that soweth discord among brethren.”

For me, this is manifest in those who claim to be of a political party, but run to left-leaning forums, particularly mainstream “progressive” panels such as The View and TV programs at networks, and tell the anti-America, anti-God hosts what they want to hear. This is all to get air time, while throwing their fellow party members under the proverbial bus because of hatreds they hold.

Some would say this is only politics and doesn’t fit God’s condemnation in this sense, but, as I say, to me personally, this is one example of this type of wickedness God hates. I certainly hate it, at any rate.

God is a God of love, absolutely. But He is also a God who is perfectly righteous. He is patient concerning His judgment, but His patience is not without limits. He hates sin in any form and will ultimately destroy it.

With all the wickedness, the evil, we see all around us, we must ask: Is the Lord of Heaven about to bring all of this anti-God activity to an end?

And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him. (Jude 1:14–15)

Before that great judgment, Jesus said the following will happen:

And when you see all these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your head, for your redemption draws near. (Luke 21:28)

The day is late … but the fields are ripe - By Jim Darlington - https://www.wnd.com/2023/05/day-late-fields-ripe/

A pastor I loved once told me, "People finding Jesus will take care of the politics."

So …

"Extra! Extra! Read all about it! World going to hell in a hand basket! Explicit details to follow!" But that's not news, because it's not new. It is just current events, fulfilling ancient prophecy. The Bible broke the story a couple thousand years ago and more.

We watch, as the world unravels. We know we are duty bound to stand against the evil. But, even as all that we know to be good is defiled, like a tsunami washing the coast, we can remain at peace, knowing God will do as He will for His purposes, known to Him alone. We will not ever grasp all His thoughts, but there are those made clear to us, by His Word.

The fly that troubles our nose for a moment will never conceive the thoughts it has interrupted, as we wave it away. That barely paints the picture of the scale of our meager, impoverished minds gazing up dumbly at the riches of God's omniscience. Nor does our disdain for the pitiful fly bear any comparison, at all, to God's loving regard for us.

The love of God might beckon, and a prayerful claim of acceptance may be made in answer. Yes, Jesus. Thank you. And grace floods the soul. Oh, but the days are wicked and long, and the taunts of the evil one still so strong. Grace has not washed away the chattering intellect that covets the place of the rational mind. Nor can honesty deny the histories, witnessed personally and in others, of inward self-deceit and outward prevarication, all for the sake of precious appearances. Did I plead with the Lord, or did I dance for an audience of men? Am I a Pharisee, intent on an imagined holiness, simply for the eyes of others? Does the sin that still plagues me not prove the falseness of my confession?

Well, well …Welcome to the club!

"No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it." [1 Corinthians 10:13, emphasis added.]

What human mind is not tempted to answer that reality with self-accusation? Paul tells us to seek out the fruit of the Spirit to confirm our election. What temptation did I fall to and why didn't I see the way out, if I am truly saved?

Were you convicted of your wrongs and convinced of your accursed fate? Did you weep at the touch of God's mercy, in the joy of the promise, proven by the risen Christ? Did the Spirit of the Lord not touch you, in a way unknown in your life till that moment? Or was that moment something different, something calm and simple, as the realization, through a night of dark dreams, that the sun will soon rise. God knows your heart better than you do.

The devil's greatest success, it's said, is convincing us that he doesn't exist. Look at the evil unfolding in the world around us and repent of that delusion!

Maybe his close second is spinning believers off into the rabbit hole of questioning their own salvation. How will they then share that which they doubt? Of all the sins for which we may be judged, how is that not among the saddest? Repent of it. I repent of it!

Intellectually, there is every rationale under the sun for doubt, and whatever we may lack the world will cruelly supply. Rational thought offers little patience to the realm of the miraculous. Faith, humbled before an unfathomable Creation, rejoices in the God who can do anything.

Listen, my friend, if you wonder if you know the truth. I know there's a God because I run from him every day, just like you do. He commands us, he corrects us, and we don't like it. We who do not apprehend salvation are imperfect. We who claim salvation are imperfect. The Lord alone is perfect.

Salvation means we are denied our due punishment by the sacrifice of the Christ, who willingly suffered in our stead. It is an invitation, from then until forever, to receive such a gift, an utter impossibility, only after it has been freely given first by the Lord. We can only love Him because He loved us first. God's only limitation is that He cannot cease to be God, or so we can only imagine. Being simultaneously human, within the human form His Hand created, was hardly more than He could manage. He gave choice and heart and souls to these forms, surely knowing many choices made by these fragile creatures would be so dark as to lead some to seek the light. And He came as the Light and the Life and the Way.

This writer recently noted having been published 25 times in WND.com over the last couple years. For the most part they have been rants about the abundant crimes of the age with a mix of well-intended, if presumptuous, solutions.

We conclude that the only reason to take the time, to enumerate the evils of the day, is to offer them as an urgent need for a call to Grace. The sky is dark but the fields are ripe, so we must hurry.

Thank you, Jesus.

Daily Jot: Speaking boldly and God’s will - Bill Wilson – www.dailyjot.com

Ever notice how the people that make it a point to put up signs in their yards like “Hate doesn’t live here” or those who openly say that there needs to be more love and understanding in the world, are the first to express anger, judgment, and mean-spiritedness when someone disagrees with their viewpoints? We have seen censorship from the government, big business, and even the news media. Hard to imagine that those who are supposed to bring truth in the news censor truth. The censorship and hate boils down to those who have a worldly view are offended by those who have a Godly worldview. Today’s censorship and animus is aimed toward Jews and Christians who stand for what is right and good.

It’s very easy to get wrapped around the axel of this ongoing attack on our values and faith. I know of people who have had to quit watching the news because it makes them anxious. People of faith are disconnecting from society. Churches are losing congregants, especially among young people. But are we to disengage? Christ said in Matthew 24:9 that “you shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake.” He also said in Mark 16:15, “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” And he advised in Luke 12:12 not to worry about what you will say when you are brought before the authorities “For the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.” Like God told Moses in Exodus 4:12 that when he went before Pharaoh, “I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall say.”

If the Lord is teaching us what to say to these hostile people, it stands to reason that we would respond with wisdom because we are ambassadors of the living God. Christ said in Matthew 5:38-39, “You have heard that it has been said, ‘an eye for an eye, and a tooth for tooth,’ but I say unto you, that you resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.” A study of Jewish law reveals that a slap on the cheek is an offense of insult that requires remuneration. By turning the other cheek, it means that you are not going to react with revenge—or return evil for evil—but to wait on the Lord for direction and vindication. Herein, the Holy Spirit directs us. We are not to just shrink back and silently tolerate evil, but rather respond to it with guidance from the Holy Spirit. As a follower of Christ, you are set apart unto him.

In Daniel 3, King Nebuchadnezzar required everyone to worship the golden image or be thrown into a furnace. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego refused. They were careful, and quite frankly Holy Spirit guided, in their answer: “If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O King. But if not, be it known unto you, O king, that we will not serve your gods nor worship the golden image which you have set up.” They did not respond in anger. They obeyed God rather than men. They had faith. They were confident in God’s decision irrespective of the outcome. In the end, the King had a change of heart and blessed God. This is an example to each of us. Be encouraged to speak boldly as you ought to speak, and be at peace that God’s will shall be accomplished.

Daily Devotion: The Truth That Sets Us Free - by Greg Laurie – www.harvest.org

Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to teachings. —John 8:31

https://harvest.org/resources/devotion/the-truth-that-sets-us-free/ - Listen

The word disciple comes from the root word discipline. However, we typically don’t like discipline because it’s hard. We want things fast, and we want things now. We don’t like to wait for anything anymore.

If we want something, we can order it online, and we might even get same-day delivery. If we want to watch a movie, we can download it or stream it. And if we want the latest news, we can get it on demand instead of waiting for the evening news or the morning newspaper.

So, when we read in the Bible about taking up our crosses daily and following Christ, and when we realize that we need to slow down and meditate on God’s Word, it seems almost alien to us.

Yet God says, “Be still, and know that I am God!” (Psalm 46:10 NLT). If we want to be real disciples of Jesus, then we need to slow down and learn to listen.

A disciple will carefully read, study, and live according to God’s Word. Jesus said, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:31–32 NLT). The Bible says that He addressed these words to those who believed in Him.

Jesus wasn’t referring to just any truth. This is specific, absolute truth found exclusively in Scripture. The context is reading, studying, knowing, and living God’s Word. That truth will set us free.

Jesus prayed to the Father, “Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth” (John 17:17 NLT). The truth we find in the Bible is the only absolute truth we can be certain of in life. And when we understand what God says about life, it sets us free.
