THE GATES OF HELL WILL SOON OPEN WIDE

a1

- By Joseph Chambers

"And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the Lord. And they shall go forth, and look upon the carcasses of the men that have transgressed against me: for their worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring unto all flesh" (Isaiah 66:23-24).

If you think our world is becoming hellish, wait until the gates to Hell are wide open. Every day it appears that we sink a little deeper into the mire. The Bible is very plain that Satan is preparing to take control of the earth for seven years. Every possible preparation for his control is being prepared. It is almost impossible for someone to be converted because hardness against spiritual things grows daily. The only possible answer for what we see is that the end is at hand.

Listen to the biblical warnings of these demons coming up out of Hell below to attack Earth's population:

"And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men. And the number of the army of the horsemen were two hundred thousand thousand: and I heard the number of them.  And thus I saw the horses in the vision, and them that sat on them, having breastplates of fire, and of jacinth, and brimstone: and the heads of the horses were as the heads of lions; and out of their mouths issued fire and smoke and brimstone. By these three was the third part of men killed, by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which issued out of their mouths" (Revelation 9: 15-18).

The Rapture is your escape before these dark creatures invade your life.  The saints will be out of here.

The great divide between the earth and its inhabitants and hell and its inhabitants has always remained a mystery. Upper Sheol in the First Testament was the abode of the righteous dead, and Lower Sheol and Hell fire was the abode of the wicked dead.  Even between these two separate locations, there was an impossible gap.  Abraham plainly told the rich man in Hell that none could pass between the two abodes.

"And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us that would come from thence" (Luke 16:26).

Jesus told this great story to teach the truth of man's eternal destiny.  The gulf between the two abodes was very narrow compared to the gulf between Earth and Hell.  In fact, man is forbidden to ever consider communication with the dead across that gulf.

The Gates of Hell Will Soon Be Wide Open:

  • This cannot happen until after the Rapture.
  • The misery on Earth will be multiplied many times over.
  • It is recorded in Joel Chapter Two as well as Revelation Chapter Nine.
  • The hatred for Christianity is multiplying.
  • Trump is hated most greatly over his policies against the rebukes that are against Bible truth.
  • Roy Moore is under attack because his views are Bible-based.
  • Protesters are almost exclusively anti-Christ and anti-Bible.
  • You think this world is sick now, just wait until the Rapture has occurred, and you will see sick at a whole new level.
  • Very quickly the church theology is becoming anti-Rapture.
  • The Post-Tribulation crowd will die like flies under this barrage from Hell.

Scripture teaches us clearly that the abode of the wicked is in the heart of the earth. Upper Sheol no longer exists because Jesus Christ led the captives out of their captivity, and they ascended with Him to dwell in His presence.  They are awaiting the resurrection of their body.  The righteous dead in the Old Testament could not escape death and its bondage until Jesus Christ was crucified and arose from the dead.  Now, the gulf is only between Lower Sheol and the earth.  No one should attempt any contact with the location of Hell or the people that are damned.  Those in Hell are awaiting the White Throne Judgment, where they will appear to give account to the rejected Creator of this universe.

Hell is not just a place of wicked men and women, but also a place where fallen angels are already being judged. Jude spoke of this when warning the church about wicked men.

"And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them in like-manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire" (Jude 1:6-7).

The apostle Peter also reminded us of the judgments of angels that had already begun. "For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;" (II Peter 2:4).

When the Son of God met demon-possessed individuals, the demons would beg not to be dismissed into the deep, clearly referring to Hell or the bottomless pit.  I believe humans can become so wicked that they are demons as surely as fallen angels are demons.  Jude gave reference to humans that had become beasts.

"Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities. But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves.  Woe unto them! For they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core" (Jude 1:8, 10, 11).

Calling humans "brute beasts" certainly suggests a dark state of character.  Hell is inhabited with the darkest of all fallen angels, and the godless and wicked throughout more than six-thousand years of human history.  They have festered in their vileness and grow increasingly wicked by the day.  Our Father and the Lamb are going to unleash a multitude of this wicked crowd right onto the earth.

Joel, an Old Testament prophet, gave a preview of this ninth chapter of Revelation.

"Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the LORD cometh, for it is nigh at hand; A day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, as the morning spread upon the mountains: a great people and a strong; there hath not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after it, even to the years of many generations. A fire devoureth before them; and behind them a flame burneth: the land is as the garden of Eden before them, and behind them a desolate wilderness; yea, and nothing shall escape them.

"The appearance of them is as the appearance of horses; and as horsemen, so shall they run.  Like the noise of chariots on the tops of mountains shall they leap, like the noise of a flame of fire that devoureth the stubble, as a strong people set in battle array.  Before their face the people shall be much pained: all faces shall gather blackness.  They shall run like mighty men; they shall climb the wall like men of war; and they shall march every one on his ways, and they shall not break their ranks: Neither shall one thrust another; they shall walk every one in his path: and when they fall upon the sword, they shall not be wounded" (Joel 2:1-8).

There is no possible interpretation of this passage but the truth before us.  Joel's army is clearly paranormal, wicked, and set to destroy, the exact character of demons.  All future judgment and End-Time prophecies find their perfect fulfillment in this masterpiece of literature.

"Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision" (Psalm 2:1-4).

The chasm between Hell and the bottomless pit at the deepest extreme of Hell is about to be bridged to the earth for the Great Tribulation.  Satan and the Father will use every wicked resource: Satan will use them to work havoc, and the Father will use them to judge and destroy their own kind.

The devil's history is full of the destruction of his followers.  The demon-possessed write of their own war with each other and the dangers, as a demon-possessed individual tried to climb the ladder of priesthood in their dark realm.  There is no doubt that Satan's kingdom is in the realm of darkness and every aspect of their character is darkness and destruction.

"And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit. And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit" (Revelation 9:1-2).

The darkest place in God's universe is about to open onto the earth.

Remember that Jesus Christ the Lamb opened the seventh seal; out from that seal appeared seven angels with seven trumpets.  This is the fifth of those angels sounding their trumpets.  And another angel, one of the seven Cherubim assigned to His churches, descended quickly from heaven.  Remember, an individual angel or cherubim was assigned to each church during the Church Dispensation.

The seven stars were the angels of the seven churches, which are now established in Heaven since the Rapture.  They are the defenders of righteousness in the earth, and that includes redemption and judgment.  This great star or Cherubim has a key to the bottomless pit.  No one, demon or human, that has ever been assigned to that pit was ever let out before.  The gate has never been unlocked on the exit side of this dark chasm.

Everything and everyone inside the bottomless pit is as wicked as they could possibly be.  They are corrupt with corrupting personalities and have longed for an opportunity to vent their fury.  If this crowd had not been held in captivity, this earth would have descended into an even darker and deeper vileness.  Their captivity has been part of God's restrictive plan until the fated hour should arrive.

When the great gate was opened, the smoke of this furnace quickly darkened the universe.  The sun and moon, plus the atmosphere, are covered and filled with the very spirit and darkness of this frightful abyss.  No doubt the smoke is but a conveyor of a stench and presence that darkens the mind of every soul it touches.  There will be no pure light until this open door to Hell is closed, and it will not be closed until this seal is finished.

"And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power. And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads. And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man. And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them" (Revelation 9:3-6).

These creatures are nothing less than demons with dark powers that Satan has trained and mobilized for his hour.

Hell and the bottomless pit is indeed a place of fire and brimstone, but it cannot devour spirits or souls.  It can only torment and create an atmosphere of misery.  In this abyss the spirits and souls will scheme, plan, and anticipate the day when they can spread their misery.  That day has come in this text.  Like locusts, hungry to devour, they have power like scorpions and inflict pain that will seem unbearable.

They will be commanded to hurt nothing of nature, but only the wicked that have rejected the God of Righteousness and do not have the seal of the Father and His Lamb in their forehead. They cannot kill these wicked souls but are commanded to torment them.  The torment lasts for five months with a pain that goes to the depth of human captivity.  The wicked have killed and maimed the righteous and God-honoring; now, the tide has turned.  This great multitude will seek to die and will make every effort to take their own life, but death will be beyond their reach.

"And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them" (1 John 4:3-5).

Revelation Chapter Eight started the period of God's revenge on the godless that mercy could not touch. They cannot blame the Father or the Lamb, because mercy and forgiveness was held before this world for at least the first three and a half years.  Even now, the door is open to repent, but this multitude wants no repentance.  Now, the misery is too dark to see past.

"And the shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared unto battle; and on their heads were as it were crowns like gold, and their faces were as the faces of men. And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as the teeth of lions. And they had breastplates, as it were breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots of many horses running to battle. And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power was to hurt men five months" (Revelation 9:7-10).

The appearance given to these spirits and souls was planned to create the very atmosphere of the bottomless pit.  Misery loves misery; now, misery has invaded the world.

Their appearance is like horses, crowned with gold and having faces like men.  They have hair like women and teeth like lions.  They wear breastplates of iron and they have wings like many chariots racing to destroy.  Their tails are quick to inflict pain and torment.  It's a scene of Hell on Earth, for indeed hell has invaded the earth.

These amazing creatures are servants of Satan and are venting his fury against his own worshipers. Satanism has never made sense because it is the opposite of a sane mind.  God the Father actually uses Satan to punish himself and his followers and to show that the very nature of evil is to destroy.  Evil does not have the ability to do good.  This Seven Years of Tribulation will reveal all that is evil for a final display of its nature.

"And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon. One woe is past; and, behold, there come two woes more hereafter" (Revelation 9:11-12).

Satan's kingdom is organized. The Book of Ephesians shows four levels of the hierarchy of Lucifer. "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places" (Ephesians 6:12).

The organization of evil is off the radar of human sight and understanding.  We fail to see how sinister it is in our normal world.  The Book of Revelation actually pulls the cover off and we can begin to catch a better picture.  This king over the bottomless pit is a destroyer.  He is one of Hell's most powerful creatures.

"And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever. And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works" (Revelation 20:10-12).

Everything represented in every name one can find for Satan in Scripture shows that there is no capacity for good, even to their own.  This king has prepared his army well; they do their job under his leadership, and their only reward is more of Hell.

One woe is over, but two more are on the way.

"And the sixth angel sounded, and I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is before God, Saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet, Loose the four angels which are bound in the great river Euphrates" (Revelation 9:13-14).

A voice rings out from the very altar of God.  The sixth angel has blown his trumpet and the depth of judgment must be made manifest.

Satan has always been on a leash.  He can do only what he is allowed.  These four angels have been bound because of previous deceptions and dark deeds.  They are masterminds of evil and have, by necessity, been bound awaiting judgment here.  Their location of dwelling is in the Babylonian vicinity, because this is Satan's stronghold.
They must be loosed to finish the task that wickedness demands.  It's fitting that during Satan's last rampages his powers will be concentrated out of his natural habitat.  Babylon will be fully rebuilt and occupied.  His Antichrist will rule from this city.  Evil will develop right out of Babylon and will spread out over the whole earth.

"And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men. And the number of the army of the horsemen were two hundred thousand thousand: and I heard the number of them.

"And thus I saw the horses in the vision, and them that sat on them, having breastplates of fire, and of jacinth, and brimstone: and the heads of the horses were as the heads of lions; and out of their mouths issued fire and smoke and brimstone.

"By these three was the third part of men killed, by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which issued out of their mouths. For their power is in their mouth, and in their tails: for their tails were like unto serpents, and had heads, and with them they do hurt" (Revelation  9:15-19).

Hell's fury will certainly arise from the center of the Beast's kingdom.

There is certainly some connection between the first half of this chapter and this second horde of spirits.  They both issue from the earth or beneath the earth.  Their former dwelling place is Hell or the abyss.  They all serve the devil and his principalities.  Their period of destruction is one year, one month, one day and one hour.  They will make use of every minute, and one-third of earth's population will be slain.

The size of this great demonic army is threatening to consider. Two hundred million trained, equipped, and vicious demonic spirits will go out from one geographical area to invade the earth.  Two hundred million suicide bombers all dressed in explosives could not do the damage this multitude will do.

John saw the vision and describes them.  He called them "horsemen" or half horse, half man with "breastplates of fire, jacinth and brimstone." Their heads are like lions and they breathe out smoke, fire, and brimstone.  The very sight of this army is enough to cause the world to seek death before they even arrive.

Their power is both from their mouth and in the tail. They kill coming and going.  This kind of creature is being portrayed in mythology and has been trivialized until Revelation seems a joke.  When the national news shows this evil footage, the fun will disappear.

Demons have previously taken on the appearance of holy angels or an angel of light, but that capacity is no longer available.  When the angels of God cast Satan out of his second heavenly empire, he will be stripped of his powers to appear holy like holy angels.  His only appearance must derive from his character, and this vision is the result.  What you are really seeing in this vision is Satan and his demons exactly as they are in their culture.  Finally, Satan will look like the devil, and all of his horde of spirits will look the same.

"And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk: Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts" (Revelation 9:20-21).

Unimaginably, there is still a multitude that will not repent.

The call to repentance has not subsided.  Angels are always flying through the Heavens calling men to repent.  We will see that in future passages.

The flesh loves its gods of self, devils, idols, and wealth.  The sin of Adam was caused by the desire for things, especially things that touch the emotions.  God must have known that if man fell, it would be because He gave Him that wonderful creative ability to be emotional, to feel things, and to have emotions of desire, success, and triumph.  Man's most beautiful creativity is his emotions, but they are also his downfall when the heart is deceived.

At this point, the world's population is almost totally given to the lust of unbridled emotions. Nothing can help a man when his emotions are unchecked, and Satan will produce just that kind of world when God gives him free reign for the coming seven years of tribulation.

WORLD WAR IV: THE CONCLUSION

We don't think of time as a weapon; it absolutely can be. For example, a siege on the town counts on time by waiting out its inhabitants so that they run out of resources and surrender. Knowing the future could also be a very powerful weapon. Although we as finite beings can't know the future, we serve a God who does. He exists outside of time and space, thus sees the end from the beginning just as clearly as He sees everything in between. He reserves this right for Himself alone, and even our chief adversary, Satan cannot know the day or hour for the Rapture of the Church.

Why is this significant? Well, God is precise. Not only is He precise, but He's already seen this all play out before, thus can utilize this foreknowledge to exact the precise execution of His will (Gal. 4:4-5). I believe that the Pre-Tribulation Rapture is not just an event where the Church (the body) is brought back together with the Head (Christ). The trump, the shout, the meeting in the air while being simultaneously transformed from mortal, to immortal is all part of His battle plan (1st Cor. 15:51-56, 1st Thess. 4:13-18, Eph. 6:12-13).

But not just the Rapture of the Church, but for everything that follows it, because those events ALL hinge on the Rapture transpiring first. In a way, the Rapture is like the 'gate-keeper' for which nothing may proceed beyond until it is complete. But that does not mean those other prophetic events can't be prepositioned and readied for their impending eventuality.

Humanity has been moving at the speed of horse for the past 6,000 years, and it is only in this past century (20th) that events have gone into overdrive. Is there a reason for this? Why wasn't the car invented in the 5th century? Why wasn't the Internet invented in the 10th? Why now? Why us? Well, because that is the way God shaped events to turn out. Preciseness. And until the end, events are going to be non-stop and unrelenting. The following is the outline I believe the Bible lays out for us.

Assessment-Outline

1. Rapture of the Church (the Gatekeeper Event)
a. Global Chaos window (length of time unknown)
b. The world begins to realign regionally, politically, economically, and militarily

2. Battle of Gog and Magog

a. Israel's enemies take advantage of this window of chaos (Ez. 38)
b. God supernaturally delivers Israel destroying the attacking militaries
c. Newly aligned world powers enter into mutually beneficial political covenant with Israel. This could include energy/security needs for Europe, since Russia is no longer able to provide the 40% natural gas she had been. This can run concurrently with the first Seal
d. Israel finally thinks she is getting what she has always wanted since 1948...global political recognition and acceptance at the world's table in conjunction with an agreement to grant a new temple on the Temple Mount

3. Seal Judgments

a. The Seven Seals opened by Christ
b. Seal 1 begins 70th Week of Daniel (See Gen 29:26-30, Daniel 9:27)
c. The Antichrist Covenant officially starts God's 'doomsday clock' countdown by seven years
d. 25% of the earth's population dies (Rev. 6:8)
e. 75% of the human population remain alive
1. Seal 1: The rider on the white horse (the Antichrist) revealed (Rev. 6:1-2)
ii. The 'Week' is divided up into two 3.5 year periods (each 42 months or 1260 day segments). The mid-way point is marked by the abomination of desolation (Matt. 24:15, Dan. 9:27)
iii. The latter half is known as the 'time of Jacob's troubles' (Jeremiah 30:7-11). This is when 2/3's of Israel's population dies (Zech. 13:8-9)

4. Trumpet Judgments

a. Seven angels blow the seven Trumpets (Rev. 8:2)
b. Another 1/3 (of that 75%) population dies (Rev. 9:15)
c. 1/3 of 3/4 (remaining 75%) = 1/4
d. This leaves only half the global population alive (so roughly 3.5 billion) by the end of the Trumpet Judgments
i. 1/4 [Seals] + 1/4 [Trumpets] = ½

5. Bowl Judgments

a. Seven Bowls poured out by seven angels
b. A solid assumption is that the earth's population is reduced by another 1/3 or 1/4th in the Bowl Judgments
c. If the above (b) is true, then by the Second Coming, only 25% of the earth's population remains

6. Armageddon / Second Coming of Christ with His Church back to the Earth:

a. ALL nations come against Israel (Zech. 14:1-5)
b. Earth's armies are destroyed (Rev. 19:19-21)
c. The antichrist and false prophet are thrown alive into the Lake of Fire (Rev. 19:20)
d. Satan is bound and thrown into the Abyss. (Rev. 19:11-20:1-2)
e. Sheep and Goat Judgment ensues (the nations) (Matt. 25)

7. The Millennial Reign of Christ

a. Christ rules upon the earth (Psalm 2, Isaiah 2, 11, 65:17-25, Luke 1:32-33, Revelation 20)
b. At the end of the 1,000 years, Satan is loosed for a 'short season' in which he gathers another rebellious faction to come against Christ. This doesn't end well for them. (Rev. 20:7-10)
c. Great White Throne Judgment (Rev. 20:11-15)
d. Eternal state (Rev. 21-22)

There should be some flexibility in the outline above as some events may overlap each other. Other events may have windows of time built in that we aren't privy to see or know. Likewise, the geopolitical situation in the Middle East is changing even now, so at some point, Israel's guard is let down for some reasons we aren't able to understand just yet. But regardless, they will happen because God's Word says they happen for that we can be sure. With that said I believe that what we are witnessing today economically, politically, culturally, religiously, technologically, and militarily, is simply the finishing touches on the world that is being primed to enter into this final testing period for all who dwell on the earth.

Assessment- Imminent or Fixed?

Just because we cannot know the exact date of the Rapture, does not mean that God has not aligned it to occur on a specific day with significance to the Jewish/Scriptural Feasts of the Lord. We know at Christ's First Coming, He did so in agreement with many Old Testament Prophecies.

But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. Galatians 4:4-5

Two schools of thought on the timing of the Rapture are;

Imminence: That it could happen at any moment and is not dependent upon any Jewish holiday or global event, but rather by the total number of Gentiles brought into the universal body of Christ. (Matt. 24:36, Mark 13:35-36, Rom. 11:25)

Prophetic Feast Fulfillment: The other view is that God uses times and seasons as markers, to which He knows exactly when and how this will align and fit in with His purposes. (Matt. 16:1-4, Gal. 4:4-5, 1 Thess. 5:1-3) So the Rapture isn't dependent on a particular number but on a particular date/time. A good summation is found here at GotQuestions.org

1) Passover (Leviticus 23:5) - Pointed to the Messiah as our Passover lamb (1 Corinthians 5:7) whose blood would be shed for our sins. Jesus was crucified on the day of preparation for the Passover at the same hour that the lambs were being slaughtered for the Passover meal that evening (John 19:14).

2) Unleavened Bread (Leviticus 23:6) - Pointed to the Messiah's sinless life (as leaven is a picture of sin in the Bible), making Him the perfect sacrifice for our sins. Jesus' body was in the grave during the first days of this feast, like a kernel of wheat planted and waiting to burst forth as the bread of life.

3) First Fruits (Leviticus 23:10) - Pointed to the Messiah's resurrection as the first fruits of the righteous. Jesus was resurrected on this very day, which is one of the reasons that Paul refers to him in 1 Corinthians 15:20 as the "first fruits from the dead."

4) Weeks or Pentecost (Leviticus 23:16) - Occurred fifty days after the beginning of the Feast of Unleavened Bread and pointed to the great harvest of souls and the gift of the Holy Spirit for both Jew and Gentile, who would be brought into the kingdom of God during the Church Age (see Acts 2). The Church was established on this day when God poured out His Holy Spirit and 3,000 Jews responded to Peter's great sermon and his first proclamation of the gospel.

5) Trumpets (Leviticus 23:24) - The first of the fall feasts. Many believe this day points to the Rapture of the Church when the Messiah Jesus will appear in the heavens as He comes for His bride, the Church. The Rapture is always associated in Scripture with the blowing of a loud trumpet (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 and 1 Corinthians 15:52).

6) Day of Atonement (Leviticus 23:27) - Many believe this prophetically points to the day of the Second Coming of Jesus when He will return to earth. That will be the Day of Atonement for the Jewish remnant when they "look upon Him whom they have pierced," repent of their sins, and receive Him as their Messiah (Zechariah 12:10 and Romans 11:1-6, 25-36).

7) Tabernacles or Booths (Leviticus 23:34) - Many scholars believe that this feast day points to the Lord's promise that He will once again "tabernacle" with His people when He returns to reign over all the world (Micah 4:1-7).

In His birth, life, and ministry Christ fulfilled both the Law and the Prophets flawlessly (Matt. 5:17-18). In His death, burial, and resurrection, Christ fulfilled the first of the three Feast days. But these aren't just Jewish Feast dates;

The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, "Speak to the people of Israel and say to them, these are the appointed feasts of the Lord that you shall proclaim as holy convocations; they are my appointed feasts. Leviticus 23:1-2

Task and Purpose

What both views share in common is if the Rapture follows the pattern of Christ's fulfillment of major prophetic events falling on Feast Dates, OR whether the date is completely and utterly imminent- either way, we can't be certain. And maybe that is the point and thus fulfills the passage that 'no man knows the day or hour.'  But just because we can't know, doesn't necessitate that the Rapture itself has to be random. Either way, it is unprovable and unknowable, and the second it happens, it will be too late to argue about it.

The only reason humanity in its current form has gone on as long as it has, is because God is longsuffering that none should perish (2 Peter 3:9) and this is the number one divine directive for our current dispensation. What I do believe is that in the aftermath of the Rapture, the Battle of Gog and Magog ensues. (Ezekiel 38)

The purpose of removing this unique body of believers (the Church) via the Rapture then is to keep His promise in John 14:1-3.

He then returns His focus back onto the nation of Israel. This renewed focus on Israel dovetails directly back into the 70th Week of Daniel, which is primarily about restoring national Israel back to Himself. (Dan. 9:24, Jer. 30:7-11)

The purpose of the battle of Gog and Magog then is to get Israel's attention focused back on Him by supernaturally delivering them (Ez. 38:16, 23). His focus back to Israel, and theirs to Him, He can finish what He covenanted with them in Dan. 9:24 (Daniel's people=the Jews, and his holy city=Jerusalem).

The reason for Gog taking advantage of this goes back to the struggle between East and West. The strength of the western world is incumbent upon a strong United States; economically, politically, and militarily. If the US collapses, it will drag everyone in the west along with her.

Put another way, since Israel's rebirth as a nation she has been under the sometimes careful, and sometimes lackluster protection by her biggest benefactor, the United States. So the only time that Israel isn't protected to one degree or another by some security arrangement is that short window of time between when the Rapture occurs and when the Antichrist-covenant takes effect. It's likely that at seeing this supernatural deliverance from Gog/Magog, Israel probably enters into the Dan. 9:27 covenant without even thinking the two are related.

Conclusion

Even time itself seems to be confirming the idea that this age we are in is about to come to its conclusion as we entered both a new millennium (the year 2000) and a new century (the 21st). While we don't know the exact day or hour the Lord will return, it seems that the consensus is growing in a shrinking group of watching-believers, is more of confirmation by the Holy Spirit within us, rather than anything we could contrive individually.

There is a war coming, like a storm on the horizon. Some can sense the change of energy in the air. Others can smell the rain. Still, others feel it in their bones. The ultimate battle between good and evil is drawing closer, and we can sense things picking up. The world continues in spiritual blindness, and thus will be as unprepared as those in Noah's day, or those in Lot's.  Things will continue to get rough between now and then because the enemy knows his time is drawing short, but thankfully and by God's graciousness, we won't be here to endure it.

Because you have kept My command to persevere, I also will keep you from the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth. Behold, I am coming quickly! Hold fast what you have, that no one may take your crown. Revelation 3:10-11)

WHY BIBLE PROPHECY MATTERS

Why does bible prophecy matter? As a Christian, why should you spend any time studying it? It's sad to say, but many Christians (including many church leaders) say Bible prophecy doesn't matter. And they say you shouldn't spend any time studying it. Why? Some of the stated reasons are "Study of Bible prophecy is a waste of time" or "it's a distraction."

Another common criticism is "Bible prophecy so negative!" Negative? How is the return of Jesus to establish everlasting peace on earth with no more death, crying, sorrow, or pain (Revelation 21:4) negative? It's not. In fact, it's our Blessed Hope (Titus 2:13)! No. There's something else going on here, and I think I know what it is. The real reason so many church leaders ignore Bible prophecy is because they care more about what the world thinks than what God thinks.

They associate the study of Bible prophecy with date setters and "kooks." And they don't want others to think they're like that. It's much easier (and a lot less controversial) to cover topics like "Seven Ways to a Better Marriage" or "Five Ways to Live a Better Life Today" or "How to Be Happy All the Time."

Now, I'm not saying these topics don't matter. They definitely do. God wants us all to live a full and blessed life here on earth. But to ignore Bible prophecy is to ignore anywhere from 25% to 33% of the Bible. If God didn't want us to study it, why would He reveal it? The Bible says all of God's Word is useful for teaching and instruction (2 Timothy 3:16-17), and that includes prophecy.

The Power of Prophecy

The prophetic passages in the Bible are just as important as all the others. And God promises wherever He sends His Word, it will prosper (Isaiah 55:11). This includes all of His Word, not just those verses self-appointed Christian leaders deem "okay." If you have any doubt about the importance of Bible prophecy when it comes to living the Christian life, here's what the Bible itself says about God's prophetic Word:

1) Prophecy Points to Jesus - All prophecy points to Jesus (Revelation 19:10). In fact, Jesus Himself said He came to fulfill the law and the prophets (Matthew 5:17). What if the magi (Matthew 2:1-2) had ignored Bible prophecy? What if they thought the study of prophecy was "a waste of time?"

Then they would have missed out on one of the greatest honors of all time - seeing the baby Jesus. What if Simeon (Luke 2:25-35) had the attitude Bible prophecy is irrelevant? Then he would have missed out on the greatest blessing of his life. What if Anna (Luke 2:36-40) had ignored Bible prophecy? Then she too would have missed out on Jesus.

2) Jesus Demands We Watch - Still think study of Bible prophecy is "a distraction" from God's work? Then how come Jesus demands it? That's right. Jesus doesn't simply suggest the study of prophecy. He commands us to study it. He commands us to "stay alert" and to "keep watch" (Mark 13:33,35). That begs the question - watch for what? The answer is clear. Watch for His return. Otherwise, He'll find us sleeping when He arrives without warning (Mark 13:36). If you don't study Bible prophecy and the signs of His coming, how will you ever know what to watch for? And if you don't know what to watch for, how can you obey Jesus?

3) Prophecy Proves the Bible Is God's Word - Long ago, God issued a challenge. He said, "Who else can tell the beginning from the end" (Isaiah 41:21-24)? God proclaims He alone can do so. Only God can reveal what is going to happen before it happens (Isaiah 46:10). The hundreds and hundreds of specific and detailed prophecies found in the Bible prove its divine authority. What other book on earth can match the Bible in predictive power? None. But if you fail to study Bible prophecy, that fact will pass you by.

4) Prophecy Is a Powerful Tool for Evangelism - In the first century, Bible prophecy was the primary tool for spreading the gospel. Peter cited the Messianic prophecies as clear proof Jesus was the long awaited Messiah (Acts 2:14-42). His speech led three thousand people to give their lives to Jesus. He also said the life of Jesus fulfilled what the prophets had written about the Messiah (Acts 3:18-24).

Philip used a fulfilled prophecy to explain the gospel to an Ethiopian eunuch (Acts 8:26-39). And Paul's primary method of spreading the gospel was to reason from the scriptures (Acts 17:2-3). He explained how Jesus fulfilled the prophecies of the Messiah. And he explained all that the prophets said about Him (Acts 13:27-31). If you don't study Bible prophecy, you're missing one of the greatest tools for spreading the gospel. What better way to respond to those who demand evidence Jesus is the Messiah than to tell them about fulfilled Bible prophecy?

5) Prophecy Encourages Holy Living - If you keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, you know He could return at any moment. And if you know He can return at any moment, it encourages holy living. In the story of the evil servant, Jesus warned us about a danger. What danger? The danger of thinking He'll delay His return. Jesus said the evil servant thinks, "My master won't be back for a while," and he goes on sinning (Matthew 24:48-49).

Instead, you should live your life as if He could come at any moment. This mindset leads to patience (James 5:8), disciplined prayers (1 Peter 4:7), love (1 Peter 4:8), and an eagerness to use your gifts for the glory of God (1 Peter 4:10-11). While we wait for the return of Jesus, we should live peaceful, pure, and blameless lives (2 Peter 3:11-14).

6) Prophecy Gives Specific Blessings - Some Christians avoid reading the Book of Revelation. They might find it frightening or difficult to understand. Book remember, it's the revelation of Jesus Christ (Revelation 1:1). It's not the revelation of John. It's not the creation of ancient men. It's a message from Jesus. It's so important, God says He'll bless anyone who reads it to the church! And He'll bless anyone who listens to it and obeys what it says (Revelation 1:3). In heaven, some will wear "a crown of righteousness." And who gets this crown? All who eagerly await the return of Jesus Christ (2 Timothy 4:8).

7) Prophecy Reveals the Season of the Lord's Return - Jesus says the world will be caught unaware when He suddenly returns (Luke 12:40). It will be like in the days of Noah and Lot. People will go on living their daily lives as normal right up until the moment of their destruction (Luke 17:30). But those who study Bible prophecy won't be surprised by His return (1 Thessalonians 5:4-6).

Why? Because they'll understand the signs. While we can't know the day or the hour of His return (Matthew 24:36), we can know the season of His return. Jesus, Moses, and the prophets told us what signs to look for. And Jesus says when see all those signs coming together you can know His return is very near (Matthew 24:33).

Conclusion

Don't ignore Bible prophecy. Don't poke fun of it or laugh at it (1 Thessalonians 5:19-22). Prophecy is behind almost every promise Christians hold near and dear. The promise of heaven...The hope of salvation...The joy of eternity with Jesus.

Each is a promise from God guaranteeing our future. And what is prophecy if not a guarantee of future events? So don't let what others think discourage you from studying Bible prophecy.

Remember, the world mocked and ridiculed Jesus. If you follow Him, He says you will be mocked and ridiculed as well (Matthew 10:22-25). Bible prophecy is the message of Jesus. And if you're a Christian, you must be willing to endure persecution for it. Jesus said if anyone is ashamed of Him and His message, He will be ashamed of that person when He returns (Luke 9:23-26). Don't be ashamed. Study Bible prophecy. Let it enrich your life. For the whole purpose of prophecy is to glorify Jesus (Revelation 19:10).
