OUR REDEMPTION DRAWETH NIGH

by Pastor Mike Taylor

50 “Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.
51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.” (1st Corinthians 15:50-54)

I have read several messages on the possible return of our Lord Jesus for His Church...Some feel that Jesus will return on the same day as He formed the Church on Pentecost....but is that is what we can glean from God's Word, or is there an alternative theory that makes more sense? Note that God is Sovereign and the rapture of the Church is imminent, but did God give us clues to His possible return for His church on a specific day in some year in the future? We don't know that day or hour, but we sure know the season.
So does God have a plan for mankind? Has He revealed it to His people through the words of  your bible? Are there prophetic time markers that God has given us, to show what He plans for the salvation of mankind?

God laid down a plan, I believe a chronological plan for the whole of mankind that is sprinkled within the pages of your bible. In Ancient Israel, during the Exodus led by Moses, God instituted festivals, or feasts given to the people of God led out of Egypt by His chosen messenger, Moses. These festivals were given to the nation of Israel and most of the religions of today discount these as “Jewish”, but fail to understand that these were given by God to humanity as a benchmark, or guide to His plan for all of mankind and a fulfillment of His master plan based on prophecy. Many people look to these feasts as if they were Jews and try and keep them as they did, not understanding the deep meaning of what God was trying to show them. They didn't understand and still don't, and many follow them blindly. I will look at them in this message as “bench marks of prophecy” or what God has done for man, and what He intends to do in the near future.

GOD GIVES HIS PROPHETIC PLAN TO THE NATION OF ISRAEL

When our great and awesome God gave them to Israel, the people did not understand them in their spiritual application, but followed them as rituals for what God expected of them. They were physical representations to them that were carried out without understanding of their final outcome and what they represented. Each of these days pointed to one event, the coming of the Messiah and His redemption of all the earth and His greatest creation, mankind.

BEGINNING WITH PASSOVER

In the spring, begins the first of the Feasts, called Passover. In the Exodus, the Hebrew people were spared the death angel killing their first borne by striking the door post and the lintels with the blood of a lamb. You can read about this in Exodus chapter 12. Sadly, Israel has never gotten beyond this act of sacrificing a lamb on Passover and were observing it during the lifetime of Jesus Christ. But the life and death of Jesus Christ changed this observance for all time.

Jesus during the evening preceding His death, called His disciples to gather together for the last supper meal where our Lord and Savior changed the emblems of this Holy Day from a lamb slain to a memorial of bread and wine. Matthew :
26  “And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.27  And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;28  For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.”(Matthew 26:26-28)

Jesus proclaimed a new symbol of the Passover, the wine and the bread, a symbol of His broken body and His shed blood. Jesus did this a day before the day the Jews would be observing the Passover with the sacrifice of thousands of lambs in the temple, because He knew that He would be the Passover offering for the sins of all mankind. At the time of our Lord’s death on the cross in the afternoon before sundown, thousands of lambs were being ritually slaughtered in the temple, but the supreme sacrifice that would take away the sins of the world, was being laid down in blood spilled upon a cruel cross at the exact moment of the events going on in the temple. Coincidence? No, God does everything right on time and has a purpose for each of them.  When Jesus was laid in the tomb of a rich man, fulfilling scripture to the exact detail, He arose three days exactly from that time of His death. Exactly as scripture proclaimed and He proclaimed to the temple priest when driving out the money changers, He arose three days later.

19 “Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.
20 Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days?
21 But he spake of the temple of his body.”(John 2:19-21)

Upon  the first day of the week, when the women came to the tomb to prepare the body for burial, they found the tomb empty and went and told the disciples who ran to find out if this event was true. Afterwards, Mary Magdalene was crying in the garden area of the tomb, when Jesus appeared to her:

14  And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.15  Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.16  Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.17  Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.”(John 20:14-17)

Why was this significant, and why did Jesus not want Mary to handle Him? In the temple on that morning was another event that Jesus was preparing to fulfill.

FIRST FRUITS TO GOD

That very morning is known as the “Wavesheaf Offering of First Fruits.” The primary history of this event is found in
Leviticus:

9 “And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
10 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye be come into the land which I give unto you, and shall reap the harvest thereof, then ye shall bring a sheaf of the firstfruits of your harvest unto the priest:
11 And he shall wave the sheaf before the Lord, to be accepted for you: on the morrow after the sabbath the priest shall wave it.
12 And ye shall offer that day when ye wave the sheaf an he lamb without blemish of the first year for a burnt offering unto the Lord.
13 And the meat offering thereof shall be two tenth deals of fine flour mingled with oil, an offering made by fire unto the Lord for a sweet savour: and the drink offering thereof shall be of wine, the fourth part of an hin.
14 And ye shall eat neither bread, nor parched corn, nor green ears, until the selfsame day that ye have brought an offering unto your God: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations in all your dwellings.” (Leviticus 23:9-14)

Jesus was to ascend to the Father to be the first fruit raised from the dead. The Bible nowhere indicates that the priests understood the ritual they were performing on Saturday evening when Jesus Christ, the archetypical Wavesheaf, was "harvested" from the material world by being resurrected from the dead. On Sunday morning, as the firstborn of many brethren, He was lifted into and through the heavens to God's throne to be accepted by Him as the sacrifice for our sins and as our High Priest.

FEAST OF PENTECOST

Seven weeks from the time of the Wave Sheaf Offering is the Feast of Pentecost.  It is the last Holy Day observed in the spring. When Jesus was on this earth after His resurrection until the time of His ascension to rejoin His Father at His right hand, He commanded His disciples to tarry till He send them the “Comforter”.  Luke
24:49  And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.

Pentecost is unique among the holy days because it is the only annual feast determined by counting. All the other festivals God commands  to observe on certain dates on the Hebrew calendar, but we must count for Pentecost. Whether we count fifty days or seven weeks or seven Sabbaths from the day of the wavesheaf offering, we must still go through the exercise of measuring the time to keep the feast properly. Why? God does nothing without a purpose, and His purposes always include giving His people additional instruction for their ultimately eternal benefit. Counting to Pentecost is no exception.  God gives us many numbers in His Word to give us a season to expect His return and unfolding events.

No where in this message, can anyone proclaim that God will do this or that on a specific date. To set dates in stone is to go against what God told us that “no man knoweth the day or the hour, but my Father only" but it can give us a direction to know that events are lining up with what His Word proclaimed.

So let’s recap the symbolic meaning of God’s plan for man that is replayed during the springtime of each year of man’s existence here on earth. Remember, these were symbolic in the days of Israel, but have been made real, as Jesus Christ has been crucified and shed His blood for the remission of sins for all who believe. Passover symbolizes our redemption from this world and the forgiveness of our sins. Unleavened Bread is a week long observance that follows Passover day and  typifies our lifelong task of coming out of sin and putting on the new man in sincerity and truth. We begin to count on wavesheaf day, which occurs during this period, and the fifty days extend to Pentecost, a festival that symbolizes the harvest of God's firstfruits AND the giving of the Holy Spirit for comfort in this Age of Grace we are now in.

These Feasts Days are God’s spring time of prophetic time markers for the redemption of His creation. Those plans have been 100% completed. Jesus has died and rose again. We who have believed have had His blood applied to our lives and we proclaim a memorial of His death and resurrection with the Lord’s supper of the bread and the wine until He returns to gather His church unto Himself. We seek by the power of the Holy Spirit to remove sin from our lives, as portrayed by the Feast of Unleavened bread. Symbolically, we press on to become conformed to the image of the only example we have for being accepted by the Father into His presence, His Son Jesus  Christ. We have before the Father, our high priest and the first fruits borne of the dead through resurrection (the beginning of the 1st resurrection), our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and we have been given the power of the Holy Spirit to be our guide, our counselor, and the power within us to complete that transformation.

THE CHURCH AGE, OR THE AGE OF GRACE

Between the spring and the and the fall, is the coming summer  months that the harvest grows. It is the time that we are now experiencing and fast drawing to a close. We are in the age of grace, the age of the church upon this earth. During this time, many trials come upon any believer, and amongst us grow the weeds amongst the harvest…called tares in your bible.  Matthew:
24  “Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field:25  But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.26  But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also.27  So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares?28  He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up?29  But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them.30  Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.”(Matthew 13:24-30)

We that have discernment and are following the ways of our God and  Savior, know that evil abounds all around us. The tares or weeds, are right among us in the church. During this summer months of the Age of Grace, God allows the wheat and the weeds to grow together, but will separate the true from the false.  When will that be?

As the spring time markings of the salvation of our God, brought about by our Savior Jesus Christ has been completed, and we are in the midst of the growing harvest, we await the completion of God’s plan for man, as symbolized by the Feasts given by God and observed in the fall. Symbolically, we are on the cusp of the end of days that I believe, are being experienced right now.  Let us now look at the spiritual meaning and application of these prophetic time markers that are called God’s Holy Days beginning in the fall.

GOD'S FALL FEAST DAYS

The first time marker is the Feast of Trumpets. If you study your bible, you will notice that the trumpet was used for many points of communication to the people. Each trump was blown in succession in the wilderness, and during the time of the Temple of God in Jerusalem. In the wilderness, the first trump or the left horn was blown to alert the people, saying “Heads up” Attention, If you will. . The right horn, or the second blast was designed to get the people ready to move. The last trump was used to signal, “Move out”…they were also used in battle as signals.

According to Jewish tradition, the first trump is blown with the left horn of the ram Abraham sacrificed instead of Isaac (Gen 22:13). The last trump is blown with the right horn of the ram. The ram represented Jesus. He will sound both the first trump and the last trump. In the book of Revelation, John hears the sound of a loud trumpet.

10 “ I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet,
12  And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks;13  And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.”(Revelation 1:10-13)

John hears a loud trumpet and turns to see the  Lord of Glory, our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Paul describes this sound that I believe John heard:
51 “Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.”(1st Corinthians 15:51-52)

And again in 1st Thessalonians;
16  For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:”(1st Thesalonians 4:16)

A trumpet was also used to announce the coming of the KING. This trumpet that each of the apostles heard was our God, Jesus Christ sounding His coming with a shout that sounds much like a loud trumpet blast and is what John and Paul both heard.
It was also what the Hebrew children heard when God came down upon Mt. Sinai and God made the mountain look like furnace aflame and the earth quaked exceedingly:
18 “And mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the Lorddescended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly.
19 And when the voice of the trumpet sounded long, and waxed louder and louder, Moses spake, and God answered him by a voice.”(Exodus 19:18-19)
This is what I believe the Children of God will hear when Jesus comes in the clouds to gather His Bride from the four corners of the earth. Is this the meaning of what the Feast of Trumpets signifies? I believe it does.

Another interesting fact that has been proclaimed by numerous writers, is that the Feast of Trumpets is the beginning of the secular New Year and is called Rosh HaShanah. One writer proclaims:

"The problem of Rosh HaShanah is heightened by the fact that it falls on Rosh Chodesh, the new moon itself. Therefore, even in Jerusalem it would have been difficult to let everyone know in time that the New Year had begun. To solve this problem, a two-day Rosh HaShanah was practiced even in Israel. Creating a two-day Rosh HaShanah was also intended to strengthen observance of each day; in the rabbinic view, the two days are regarded as a yoma arikhta, ONE LONG DAY. It has been called “when no one knoweth the day or the hour”

Recall what Jesus told His disciples in Matthew?,
36  “But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.”(Matthew 24:36)

Could our Lord be giving us a clue to His coming? What day, what year, we don’t know.We cannot say with certainty, but there has nothing to happen before the Lord breaks through the clouds and proclaims with a loud trumpet call, “
COME UP HERE.” Let me make one bold statement right here. If God has been fulfilling His plan for man in the past, on THE VERY DAY of these Ancient God given time markers, called God’s Feasts, is it not plausible or even wise to conclude that God will continue to do the same for the fall feast on THE very day? If God  has done this in the past, is it reasonable to expect Him to do the same in the fall observances?  I know one thing, God does not change, He is God of order, and He gives discernment and reveals truths to His people in preparation for His movement.

DAY OF ATONEMENT

Following the last observances of the plan for man and God's prophetic time markers is that God has given us in His Word, is the “Day of Atonement.”.(at-one-ment with God).
Atonement  is used in the sense of "a covering," and therefore as a means of forgiving sin. By contrast, in the burnt offering, sin is nowhere seen because it is not part of what the burnt offering teaches. In it, God is satisfied because the offering has met His requirement through Jesus blood in his life, and by the righteous way he lives his life by following the example of His Lord Jesus. Thus, the offering shows that it is accepted.

Many believe that this is the time of the marriage supper of the Lamb, where the saints in heaven are wed to the groom, our Savior being joined to His church.  Revelation 19:
7 “ Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.8  And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.9  And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.”(Revelation 19:7-9)

The Jews call this the 10 days of Awe that are the ten days between the Feast of Trumpets and the Day of Atonement, by examining their lives and attempting to get right with God. They greet each other by saying "may your name be written in the book" or another year of life granted because of their good deeds. It is also believed that this period is when the tribulation rains down on the earth in God's wrath, as we are 7 years in heaven's realm at the Marriage Feast of our betrothed husband, Jesus Christ.
FEAST OF TABERNACLES

At the conclusion of the time of feasting and being joined to our bridegroom, the Lord returns to complete a prophecy marker, know as the Feast of Tabernacles, or God dwelling with us. Looking at Revelation:

11  “And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.12  His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.13  And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.14  And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.15  And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.16  And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”(Revelation 19:11-16)

God will literally tabernacle with us for 1000 years and rule the nations with a rod of iron. All will be set aright and God will return this earth to the time of pristine condition that was in the time of Adam and Eve. Rebellion will be put down, rebellious sinners will be eliminated, and Satan will be bound for 1000 years in a bottomless pit. Satan will be forced to observe a Sabbath rest from tempting mankind, until the 1000 years are completed and he will be loosed for a "little season".

During this time, God will command that all keep the Feast of Tabernacles as read in the book of Zechariah:

16  And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles.17  And it shall be, that whoso will not come up of all the families of the earth unto Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, even upon them shall be no rain.18  And if the family of Egypt go not up, and come not, that have no rain; there shall be the plague, wherewith the LORD will smite the heathen that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.19  This shall be the punishment of Egypt, and the punishment of all nations that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.”(Zechariah 14:16-19)

Why does our Lord command us to keep this time of the Feast of Tabernacles and not the rest of His Feasts? Because our God is finally with us, and commands us to worship Him in spirit and in truth. All who are mortal during this time and born to human parents, will be introduced, as we were to the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ and to believe on/ or not to believe on what He did. All other markers in prophecy mentioned before and written in God’s Word have been totally completed, but God, our Lord and Savior will continue to redeem mortals in the 1000 year reign of Jesus Christ. That will be the job of the Church, as Kings and Priest before God to point men and women born during this 1000 years to the sacrifice of Jesus when He lived as a mortal on this earth. That is why the animal sacrifices are resumed to illustrate what Jesus did by His death on a cross. (Ezekiel chp. 40-42)Men will still be of a sin nature, but not to the extent with Satan removed from tempting them. When Satan is unleashed from his pit, then somehow he will deceive a vast number of people that the bible speaks of in Revelation chapter 20:
7  “And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison,8  And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog, and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.9  And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.”(Revelation 20:7-9)

At the end of this glorious time when Jesus will reign with righteousness and justice, that Satan will be allowed to be loosened for a short season to tempt all who have been born in the past 1000 years. It’s almost unfathomable that men and women who have been in a first person relationship with God Almighty, up close and personal, will follow this “prince of lies”. The bible says it will be so. Hard for me to imagine, but I can’t imagine Israel being in the wilderness and going against the God of miracles performed amongst them and following their sin nature, but so it was.

At the end of this period, when all sin is exterminated, it will prove that man cannot be trusted in his mortal state. God will remove all aliens that are not washed in the blood of Jesus Christ and the remainder will be spirit beings, as God the Father is, and as Jesus  Christ is….as they are, so shall all men and women be.
THE LAST GREAT DAY, OR WHITE THRONE JUDGMENT

But before that is finished, there is one last Feast proclaimed by God. In the Bible, it is called the “Last Great Day.”…Great because it will be the final judgment of all unsaved men and women from all of human history standing before a “Great  White Throne.” in a second and last resurrection to life. Jesus, the Son of God will be the supreme Judge over all rebellious mankind:

Revelation chapter 20:
11  “And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.12  And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.13  And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.14  And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.15  And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”(Revelation 20:11-15)
God our Father has given our Lord Jesus the right to be the judge of all mankind, as He was one of us on earth and has all authority to judge:
For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son,” (John 5:22)

God's perfect plan for mankind has finished, and we look forward to eternal bliss with our Lord Jesus and God our ABBA Father in a new heaven and a new earth, because our names were found in the book of life and become part of the Family of God.

How do you become written in the book of life? How do you live with God Almighty for all eternity and be present with our Savior for all eternity? What is the one work that you must do that will qualify you to be counted amongst the children of God? How do you become heirs and joint heirs with Jesus Christ?
8 “But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:8-13)

And the mini sermon that is the essence of what the bible was written for and spoke to me as a boy:
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.17  For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.18  He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”(John 3:16-18)

God’s plan for man embodied in these time markers of prophecy and their fulfillment point to only one Man, the Son of Man….the Son of the Living God, Jesus the Christ.

If you have not found this truth in Jesus Christ and His atonement for our sins, as spelled out in these biblical revival messages, I call upon you to let me introduce you to the only name that will lead to eternal life and escape eternal judgment, Jesus Christ, the Son of God. His Name is the name that  is above every name, to the glory of God our Father.
Each of us who see this world coming to an end, as evil abounds and everyone knows that something big is coming. Some just don't know what actually is coming, but those who are wise by the Holy Spirit of God know what these times mean for us....
25 “And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;
26 Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.
27 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.” (Luke 21:25-28)

The Supernatural Signs for the Jews

 - By Randy Nettles -

The Jews have always been a stiff-necked and obstinate people according to God's word: "And the Lord said unto Moses, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people (Exodus 32:9). The Lord told this to Moses three times while they were in the wilderness. Moses told the people they were stiff-necked three times.

Hezekiah, a faithful king of Judah, issued a proclamation to his citizens and the remnant of Israel to come to Jerusalem and celebrate the Passover Feast. He told them to obey God's commandment and not to be stiff-necked as their fathers were. The Lord also mentioned this particular quality of the Jewish people to the prophets Jeremiah and Ezekiel.

Here is how Stephen worded it when he addressed the Sanhedrin right before they murdered him: "You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, you do always resist the Holy Spirit: as your fathers did, so do you. Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? And they have slain them which showed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom you have been now the betrayers and murderers: who have received the law by the disposition of angels, and have not kept it" (Acts 7:51-53).

During the time of the Exodus, when the Egyptians were pursuing them, the children of Israel became sore afraid and cried out unto the Lord: "And they said unto Moses, because there were no graves in Egypt, have you taken us away to die in the wilderness? Why have you dealt with us to carry us from out of Egypt? Is not this the word that we did tell you in Egypt, saying, leave us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it had been better for us to serve them, than that we should die in the wilderness" (Exodus 14:11-12).

Even after witnessing the ten plagues that God sent against the Egyptians, the Jews were still fearful and had no faith in the power of their God to save them. Moses, the mighty man of God, spoke to them: "Fear not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will show to you today: for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you shall see them again no more for ever. The Lord shall fight for you, and you shall hold your peace" (Exodus 14:13-14).

You know the rest of the story. God supernaturally parted the Red Sea for the Israelites to cross over on dry land. When the Egyptian army tried to cross, God loosed the waters and they were all drowned. "And Israel saw that great work which the Lord did upon the Egyptians: and the people feared the Lord, and believed the Lord, and his servant Moses" (Exodus 14:31). I guess their necks became less stiff at that brief moment.

Soon after this supernatural event, the children of Israel once again miraculously forgot their God. They foolishly went back to worshipping false idols as they had done in Egypt. They did this while Moses was receiving the Ten Commandments from God. Moses was up on Mount Sinai with God, and the people thought he had been away for too long. This is what they said unto Aaron: "Make us gods, which shall go before us, for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we don't know what has become of him" (Exodus 32:1).

God informed Moses about the people corrupting themselves and told him: "I have seen this people, and behold, it is a stiffnecked people: now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may wax hot against them, and that I may consume them: and I will make of you a great nation" (Exodus 32:9-10). God was ready to destroy the whole nation because of their great sin. However, Moses pleaded for mercy and God spared them. Moses saved his people as Jesus would later do for the same Jewish people and also the entire world.

Moses was also a prophet of God. Before his death (at 120 years of age), the Lord gave him this message concerning the Messiah of the Jewish people: "I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto you (Moses), and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him" (Deuteronomy 18:18-19).

Moses had a very special relationship with God. "And there arose not a prophet since in Israel like unto Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face; in all the signs and the wonders, which the Lord sent him to do in the land of Egypt to Pharaoh, and to all his servants, and to all his land, and in all that mighty hand, and in all the great terror which Moses showed in the sight of all Israel" (Deuteronomy 34:10-12).

The Jews have always needed a "sign" or supernatural event before they would trust in the God of their fathers: Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. "For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom" (1 Corinthians 1:22).

The Jews of Jesus' time were looking for their promised Messiah and yet couldn't find him, even while He was living in their midst. Jesus miraculously healed countless people from disease and demon possession, raised people from the grave, miraculously fed thousands, turned water into wine, and even walked on water; and yet the 'elite' religious leaders in Jerusalem rejected him as their Messiah They were like Satan in that they wanted to test Jesus' supernatural abilities as the Son of God.

Two of the three temptations of Satan in Matthew 4 required Jesus to perform a supernatural act:

1) "The tempter came to him and said, 'If you are the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.' Jesus replied: 'It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God'" (Matthew 4:3).

2) "Then the devil took Jesus up into the holy city (Jerusalem), and set Jesus on the highest point of the temple, and said to him, 'If you are the Son of God, cast yourself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning you: and in their hands they shall bear you up, lest at any time you dash your foot against a stone.' Jesus said unto him, 'It is written again, you shall not tempt the Lord your God'" (Matthew 4:5-7).

The third temptation was for Jesus to fall down and worship Satan. In return, Satan would give him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them. Jesus told Satan: "Get out of here Satan: for it is written. You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve" (Matthew 4:10).

These supernatural events, if performed, would be of such magnitude that it would prove beyond any doubt Jesus was truly the Son of God...the Messiah. The Jews were looking for the supernatural Son of God that could defeat the Roman Empire and liberate them from their oppressive rule. Of course, they didn't realize that He actually came to defeat the enemy, Satan, and to liberate the Jews (and the entire human race) from their oppressive sin. They should have been wiser and concentrated more on the natural act of listening to Jesus' words concerning himself and the Kingdom of God.

In Matthew 12, certain religious leaders of the scribes and of the Pharisees told Jesus that they needed to see a sign (supernatural) from him to prove that he was the Son of God. Just healing people wasn't enough of a miracle. They wanted a spectacular supernatural act. Jesus answered them: "An evil and adulterous generation seek after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas: for as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth" (Matthew 12:39-40).

Even at the cross, the Jewish chief priests were still looking for a supernatural event. They wanted Jesus to prove that if he was the King of Israel, he should come down from the cross and save himself, according to Matthew 27:41-42. Even though He could have called down legions of angels to rescue him from death, Jesus didn't do that. He submitted his will to the Father and was obedient unto death. He accomplished the task that was set before him by the Father and now sets at the right hand of the throne of God.

God would give the Jews their supernatural sign, however, on that Thursday afternoon of Nisan 14 (Jewish calendar), otherwise known as the Passover Feast. The date on the Julian calendar would have been April 2, A.D. 33 (March 31, AD 33 on our modern Gregorian calendar). It had to be on a Thursday according to the great Bible teacher, Jack Kelley. I encourage anyone who has any doubts about the day of the week when Jesus was crucified to read the following article:

There was darkness in the land of Israel for three hours, from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm Jerusalem time. 3:00 pm was when Jesus Christ died on that Passover day. This darkness was a supernatural event that only God could have accomplished. Why was it supernatural? After all, solar eclipses occur rather frequently... but only during the time of a new moon! However, it was Passover; and Passover is always during a full moon.

There was no recorded solar eclipse that year or any of the immediate years before or after that particular Jewish date (Nisan 14). NASA keeps a record of solar and lunar eclipses that you can study and research, and yet there was no evidence of a solar eclipse at that approximate date. This was a supernatural sign to the Jews from God. There was also an earthquake that occurred at this time... another sign (although not as supernatural as the darkness of the sun during a full moon).

The supernatural aspect of the earthquake was that, while it was happening, the veil that hung in front of the Temple room called The Most Holy Place was split in two. This was a prophetic act of God signifying man's access to God is no longer only possible through a high priest of the Levitical order. Jesus is now our High Priest who gives our prayers to the Father in person.

There was no natural solar eclipse that occurred on that date; however, there was a partial lunar eclipse in that region of the world that occurred a few hours later (the beginning of the next day) on Friday, Nisan 15, or April 3, AD 33. This was probably not a spectacular event, as the moon that was just rising turned partially dark (possibly a little red) for a few hours. A lunar eclipse always occurs during a full moon. This is not the supernatural event of 3 hours of darkness in Jerusalem that God had orchestrated a few hours earlier, while it was still Passover.

The Jewish calendar day starts in the evening at 6:00 pm. Jesus died at 3:00 pm on Passover day, Nisan 14, on a Thursday. Approximately 4 or 5 hours later (7:00 or 8:00 pm) on Nisan 15 (the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread), when Jesus was already in the grave, the partial lunar eclipse was underway. This was a natural event that happens frequently throughout the years (always on a full moon) and can be verified through NASA records.https://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/LEhistory/LEhistory.html#ref

The date was April 3, AD 33 on the Julian calendar and April 1, AD 33 on our modern Gregorian calendar. April 1st is sometimes known as "April fool's day." I think this is significant in the sense that most Christians believe Jesus died on "good" Friday, instead of on Thursday. Has anyone ever figured out how to get 3 nights and 3 days out of a Friday to Sunday time frame, without exaggerating the truth?

Of course, the Jewish leaders didn't heed the sign/s they were given at the cross on that Passover day or three days later on the Feast of Firstfruits when Jesus was supernaturally resurrected back to life. They conveniently put the Jonah prophecy Jesus gave them earlier out of their mind. He even spent 40 days in their midst after His resurrection (before His accession) preaching about the kingdom of God, and they still didn't accept him as their promised Messiah. The Jewish people believed the lies of the Pharisees instead of the truth of the word of God that was spoken and written by the many prophets God sent them over the years.

Because of their unbelief they missed the coming of their long-awaited Savior and King. However, they will get another chance...one last chance to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord. This will only happen near the very end of the 70th Seven, otherwise known as Jacob's Trouble, or the Tribulation. In Hosea 5:15 Jesus said to Israel: "I will go and return to my place, till they acknowledge their offence, and seek my face: in their affliction they will seek me early."

With the forces of the Antichrist at the city of Bozrah, the Battle of Armageddon will begin its last three days, according to Hosea 6:1-3. The Jewish people will finally acknowledge Jesus as their Lord and Messiah, and will call on Him to save them from death.

"Come, and let us return unto the Lord: for he has torn, and he will heal us; he has smitten, and he will bind us up. After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight. Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the Lord: his going forth is prepared as the morning; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth."

Israel as a nation will be regenerated and saved after two days of national confession of sin. On the third day, they will plead for the Second Coming of Jesus. The latter rain is the rain of spring in Israel, the time of year (Passover) when Jesus presented himself as their king during his First Coming. The former rain of Israel is in the fall season (Feast of Trumpets) and will occur when Jesus returns to the Earth as undisputed King of kings.

Jesus' Second Coming will not be without its supernatural signs as quoted by the prophet Joel and others: "And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the Lord come. And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the Lord has said, and in the remnant whom the Lord shall call" (Joel 2:30-32).

"The sun and the moon shall be darkened, and the stars shall withdraw their shining. The Lord also shall roar out of Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall shake: but the Lord will be the hope of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel. So shall you know that I am the Lord your God dwelling in Zion, my holy mountain: then shall Jerusalem be holy, and there shall no strangers pass through her any more" (Joel 3:15-17).

God's supernatural signs and judgments during the Tribulation will finally convince the stiff-necked Jews to face the truth about Jesus' identity as their promised Messiah and King. Of course, as Christians, He is our Lord and Savior also. Only through belief in Him as the Son of God can you come to the Father and have eternal life in His Kingdom.

Even so, come Lord Jesus.
